TeKema Balentine of Madison, Wisconsin raised the roof when she performed her winning talent “Caro Mio Ben”, a classical Italian operata. TeKema represented the state of Wisconsin and captured the national title of Miss Black USA 2019 on August 11, 2019 in the nation’s capital, Washington, D.C..

The multi-talented model, singer, and high school track and field coach was born in Dyersburg, TN and raised in Madison, WI. She is a graduate of Madison East High School and is currently pursing an Associates degree in Nursing at Madison Technical College. TeKema is passionate about improving the health status of women and advocating the importance of education for girls across Wisconsin and the U.S. TeKema’s ultimate goal is to become a Nurse Practitioner specializing in pregnancy and early childhood development.

As Miss Black USA, TeKema will serve as a celebrity advocate for the Heart Truth campaign throughout her year long reign. The national campaign raises awareness of heart disease, the leading cause of death of women in the U.S. and disproportionately affects women of color.

TeKema has won numerous awards and was recently honored with her own day, “TeKema Balentine Day” in the city of Madison by Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway. TeKema serves on the committee for P.A.T.C.H.(Providers and Teens Communication for Health), a program organized by Wisconsin Alliance for Women's Health.

TeKema’s hobbies include gardening, jogging with her local Sole Sistas running group, high jumping, and tending to her 7 pets: two labradoodles, Lola and Stella; One cat, Chowder; One leopard spotted gecko, Micka; One ball python, Royalty; and a 55 gallon salt water reef tank full of fish and coral.
