Briana Norwood Wins Daphne Lee Artistic Legacy Award for Full-Time Artist

Miss Black USA is pleased to announce the two winners of the 2019 Daphne Lee Artistic Legacy Award for Full-Time Artists! Each award is $2500 and will allow the recipients to pursue their dream of a career in the performing arts.

Full-time Artist Winner: Briana Norwood (Atlanta, GA), Songwriter and Musician

”I have faced no lights, empty fridges, late rent, and repossessed cars all in the name of dance. But, in return, I have gone on to dance with some of the biggest artist in the world, premiered in three major films and 7 television series, musicals. It’s been hard, but well worth it.”

” I have walked the long road as a professional commercial dancer seven years and counting. It took me 10 years of training to gain my biggest dance dream of dancing for Beyoncé. It took me training in London with JaQuel Knight from America to advance my career.”


Miss Black USA, Inc. is proud to support the dreams of women of color pursuing professional careers in the arts through the Daphne Lee Artistic Legacy Award.

Daphne Lee served as Miss Black USA 2017 and is a professional dancer with the renowned Dance Theater of Harlem, currently on tour.

Applications for the 2020 Daphne Lee Artistic Award will open up on January 15, 2020.

Daphne Lee Artistic Legacy Scholarship Announced

#BlackExcellenceand #Scholarship is a thing at Miss Black USA. Awarding over $500,000 in scholarships to date, we are pleased to announce the DAPHNE LEE ARTISTIC LEGACY AWARD. The $2500 scholarship will be awarded to a contestant in this year's Miss Black USA Pageant.

Daphne Lee, the reigning Miss Black USA is a graduate student, advocate, Goodwill Ambassador to Sierra Leone and a member of the renowned Dance Theater of Harlem. The Miss Black USA Organization is proud to celebrate Daphne's legacy with a scholarship in her name.

Beginning Fall 2019, the scholarship will be open to any female of color who is a full-time artist or student pursuing a degree in the performing arts in the U.S. Applications will be available online beginning Jan 1, 2019, and will close April 30, 2019. 

Miss Black USA Announces The Empowerment Lipstick

Every day is National Lipstick Day at Miss Black USA.  We are proud to announce a new partnership with Lamik Beauty where beauty is revealed not applied.  Miss Black USA and Lamik Beauty launched the Empowerment Lipstick.  The new RED lipstick empowers women while supporting a good cause.  Proceeds from the sale each lipstick are donated to the Miss Black USA Scholarship Fund.
