Brooke Terry Wins Daphne Lee Artistic Legacy Award for College Students

Miss Black USA is pleased to announce the winner of the 2019 Daphne Lee Artistic Legacy Award! Each award is $2500 and will allow the recipients to pursue their dream of a career in the performing arts.

Miss Black USA, Inc. is proud to support the dreams of young women of color pursuing professional careers in the arts through the Daphne Lee Artistic Legacy Award.

Daphne Lee served as Miss Black USA 2017 and is a professional dancer with the renowned Dance Theater of Harlem, currently on tour. To date, Miss Black USA has awarded over $500,000 in scholarships to date.

Applications for the 2020 Daphne Lee Artistic Award will open up on January 15, 2020.

Briana Norwood Wins Daphne Lee Artistic Legacy Award for Full-Time Artist

Miss Black USA is pleased to announce the two winners of the 2019 Daphne Lee Artistic Legacy Award for Full-Time Artists! Each award is $2500 and will allow the recipients to pursue their dream of a career in the performing arts.

Full-time Artist Winner: Briana Norwood (Atlanta, GA), Songwriter and Musician

”I have faced no lights, empty fridges, late rent, and repossessed cars all in the name of dance. But, in return, I have gone on to dance with some of the biggest artist in the world, premiered in three major films and 7 television series, musicals. It’s been hard, but well worth it.”

” I have walked the long road as a professional commercial dancer seven years and counting. It took me 10 years of training to gain my biggest dance dream of dancing for Beyoncé. It took me training in London with JaQuel Knight from America to advance my career.”

Announcing the Daphne Lee Artistic Legacy $2500 Award

The Daphne Lee Artistic Legacy Award is open to any girl or women of color in the U.S.  The applicant must be at least a high school senior or student at a U.S. accredited public or private college or university or a full-time professional artist with demonstrated financial need.  A minimum of 3.00 cumulative GPA or equivalent at the institution from which he/she is applying is required for high school seniors and students enrolled at a college or university.
